What is the Gold Health Screening Blood Test?

The Gold Health Screening Blood Test is an advanced diagnostic panel that measures over 60 distinct biomarkers across six clinical areas. It goes far beyond a standard NHS health check to evaluate cardiovascular risk in detail, hormone balance, metabolic function, immune health, and tumour-marker screening in a single, comprehensive assessment.

As we age, the risk of developing chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic syndrome increases substantially. Standard health screens often only scratch the surface, missing early warning signs that are detectable years before symptoms appear. Our Gold package is designed for proactive individuals who want a robust, multi-dimensional analysis of their health.

By identifying subtle shifts and imbalances long before clinical disease develops, this test provides the data needed to make targeted, personalised lifestyle and nutritional interventions. All samples are processed at an internationally renowned Harley Street laboratory that works with NHS trusts and major UK private hospitals. Your full laboratory results are provided directly to you, and you can discuss the findings with your own GP or specialist.

Who is this test for?

  • Proactive Professionals: Individuals seeking a complete baseline of their current health status to optimise performance and longevity.
  • Family History Concerns: Those with a genetic predisposition to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or autoimmune conditions who need a deeper investigation.
  • Unexplained Symptoms: Patients experiencing persistent fatigue, unexplained weight changes, or brain fog who require a thorough diagnostic workup.
  • Health Optimisers: Anyone wanting precise data on their nutrient status, hormone balance, and toxic exposures to guide targeted supplementation.

Want a broader health assessment? Combine this blood test with our health screening packages for a complete picture.

What Does the Gold Package Test?

Six core clinical areas are covered, generating an intricately detailed snapshot of your health down to the molecular level. Each category is clinically curated to detect the conditions most likely to impact long-term health outcomes.

Cardiovascular & Metabolic

Heart Health (Detailed Profile)

Heart disease remains a leading cause of premature mortality, and the most important markers are not measured on a standard NHS cholesterol test. The Gold panel investigates cardiovascular structure, function and risk in depth — combining advanced lipid particle analysis with cardiac muscle and heart-strain markers used by cardiologists.

  • Advanced Lipid Particles: Full lipoprotein subfractionation (LDL, HDL, VLDL), Apolipoproteins A1 & B, Lp(a), and small dense LDL — a far more accurate measure of atherogenic risk than LDL-C alone.
  • Cardiac Function Markers: NT-proBNP (early heart-strain and heart-failure indicator) and high-sensitivity Troponin I (myocardial injury marker used to detect subclinical cardiac damage).
  • Vascular Inflammation: High-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), fibrinogen, and homocysteine — markers linked to plaque instability and stroke risk.
  • Diabetes & Insulin Resistance: HbA1c, fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and c-peptide.
  • Risk Stratification: Results interpreted using validated cardiovascular risk algorithms (QRISK3, ASCVD).
Organ Function

Kidney & Liver Evaluation

Silent damage to the kidneys and liver often goes undetected until late stages. We examine key parameters to identify organ injury in its earliest, most treatable phases.

  • Kidney Function: Creatinine, cystatin C (a highly sensitive early marker), electrolytes, and eGFR.
  • Liver Function: ALT, AST, GGT, albumin, and bilirubin.
  • Metabolic Syndrome: Leptin and adiponectin — markers of insulin resistance and adipose tissue function.
Endocrine System

Hormone Balance Assessment

Hormone disorders increase with age and subtly shift body regulation patterns. We examine all major hormonal systems for both men and women to detect dysregulation before overt symptoms develop.

  • Thyroid: TSH, free T3, free T4, and thyroid antibodies (TPO & TG).
  • Reproductive: Oestradiol, testosterone, LH, and FSH.
  • Adrenal & Anabolic: Cortisol, DHEA-S, and IGF-1.
  • Inflammation: CRP, fibrinogen, and cytokines.
Nutrition

Nutrient Status

Nutritional deficiencies are common and often go undetected for years. We identify specific shortfalls to guide targeted dietary and supplementation changes.

  • Nutrient Status: Iron profile, Vitamin B12, folate, zinc, Vitamin D, and antioxidant capacity.
  • Blood Health: Full blood count including red and white cell differentials.
Immune System

Immune Health Screening

A hyperactive immune system drives systemic inflammation, leading to atherosclerosis, arthritis, cognitive decline, and autoimmunity. We assess immune regulation and autoantibody presence comprehensively.

  • Inflammation: CRP, ESR, cytokines, and immunoglobulins.
  • Autoimmunity: Coeliac antibodies and thyroid antibodies.
  • Immunosenescence: CD4/CD8 ratio and IgG subclasses.
Cancer Markers

Tumour Marker Screening

Tumour markers are substances produced by cancerous cells, or by the body in response to cancer. They are not diagnostic on their own — results must always be interpreted by a clinician alongside imaging, examination and clinical history — but they are valuable for risk indication, baseline tracking and prompting earlier specialist review when elevated.

  • Prostate Health (Men): PSA — total and free, with calculated ratio.
  • Ovarian Health (Women): CA-125.
  • Breast Health (Women): CA 15-3.
  • Gastrointestinal: CEA (colorectal) and CA 19-9 (pancreatic and biliary).
  • Liver: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP).

Why Lp(a) and ApoB Testing Matters

Lipoprotein(a) — or Lp(a) — is a genetically determined lipid particle that significantly increases cardiovascular and stroke risk, yet it is not measured in a standard cholesterol test. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Lipidology confirms Lp(a) as an independent, causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Similarly, Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) provides a more accurate measure of atherogenic particle burden than LDL-C alone. The Gold package tests both, giving a far more complete picture of your true cardiac risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before the Gold Health Screening Blood Test? +

Yes. Because this comprehensive panel includes fasting glucose, insulin, and detailed lipid profiles, we require you to fast (consume only water) for 10 to 12 hours prior to your blood draw. This ensures accurate results, particularly for the diabetes and metabolic markers.

How long does it take to receive my results? +

Due to the extensive nature of the 60+ biomarker panel, results typically take 7 to 10 working days. Once the laboratory analysis is complete, your full results report is sent directly to you. You can then discuss the findings with your own GP or specialist.

Why is Lp(a) testing important? +

Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a genetically determined lipid particle that significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Standard cholesterol tests do not measure it. Research published by HEART UK and confirmed in the 2024 NLA Scientific Statement identifies elevated Lp(a) as an independent, causal cardiovascular risk factor. Identifying it allows for more aggressive, targeted preventative strategies.

What is the difference between the Gold and Silver packages? +

The Silver package covers 40+ markers across cardiovascular, metabolic, kidney, liver, basic cancer, nutrient and thyroid health. The Gold package extends this to 60+ markers, adding a complete hormone profile (adrenal, reproductive and anabolic), a more detailed heart health profile (NT-proBNP, Troponin and full lipid subfractionation), an expanded tumour marker panel (PSA, CA-125, CA 15-3, CEA, CA 19-9, AFP), and a fuller immune and metabolic breakdown. The Gold package is for those who want the most thorough possible assessment.

What cancer markers are included in the Gold package? +

The Gold package includes a comprehensive tumour marker panel: PSA (prostate, men), CA-125 (ovarian, women), CA 15-3 (breast, women), CEA (colorectal), CA 19-9 (pancreatic and biliary) and AFP (liver). Tumour markers are screening tools, not diagnostic tests on their own. Elevated levels can occur for benign reasons, and normal levels do not entirely exclude cancer — results must always be interpreted by a qualified clinician alongside imaging, clinical examination and your full medical history. Where results warrant further investigation, you can take them to your GP or specialist for follow-up.

Can I combine this blood test with an ultrasound screening package? +

Absolutely. Many of our patients combine the Gold Health Screening Blood Test with our Women's Full Body Screening or Men's Full Body Screening ultrasound packages for the most comprehensive proactive health assessment available in London. Please call our clinic on 020 3633 4902 to discuss combined booking options.

Is the Gold package suitable for both men and women? +

Yes. The hormone panel within the Gold package covers both male and female hormonal systems, including testosterone, oestradiol, LH, FSH, cortisol, and DHEA-S. Both men and women can experience hormone dysregulation, and the Gold package is designed to detect imbalances across all major endocrine systems regardless of sex.
