The Wider Team

Consultant Sonographers

CASE-accredited postgraduate qualifications · HCPC · BMUS

Our consultant sonographers are advanced clinical practitioners who acquire, interpret and report ultrasound examinations autonomously, working to BMUS and HCPC standards. Learn what the role involves and how it differs from an echocardiographer.

Who will perform your scan?

At Sonoworld the clinician who scans you is the clinician who reports you. There is no hand-off between a technician who acquires images and a distant reader who interprets them later: your consultant explains the findings on screen during the appointment, answers your questions directly, and completes your written report within 24 hours.

  • Ultrasound examinations — performed and reported by an HCPC-registered consultant sonographer.
  • Echocardiograms and cardiac imaging — performed and reported by our BSE-accredited echocardiographer to British Society of Echocardiography guidelines.
  • MSK scans and ultrasound-guided injections — performed by our advanced-practice MSK specialist, combining diagnostic scanning with guided intervention in a single visit where appropriate.

Clinical governance and regulation

Sonoworld Diagnostic Services is registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission. Our clinicians are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE), and our scanning practice follows British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) guidance. All appointments take place at our clinic at 29 Weymouth Street, Marylebone, London W1G 7DB.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose which clinician performs my scan?
Scans are allocated by specialty: cardiac imaging is performed by our echocardiographer, MSK scans and guided injections by our MSK specialist, and general, women's health, men's health, pregnancy and vascular examinations by our consultant sonographers. If you have a preference, mention it when booking or call us on 020 3633 4902 and we will accommodate it where clinic scheduling allows.
When will I get my results?
You receive instant verbal results during your appointment — your clinician explains the findings on screen as they scan. Your written report follows within 24 hours and can be shared with your GP or specialist.
Do I need a GP referral to be seen by the team?
No. You can self-refer for any of our diagnostic scans. If your scan identifies something that needs further investigation, your report gives your GP or specialist the clinical detail they need to arrange the next step, and our clinicians will advise you on the appropriate pathway before you leave.
Are your clinicians regulated?
Yes. Sonoworld is a CQC-registered clinic. Our sonographers are registered with the HCPC, our echocardiographer is accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography, and our practice follows BMUS guidance.
