Ultrasound is the first-line imaging tool for most women's health concerns. It uses high-frequency sound waves — no radiation — to produce real-time images of the pelvic organs, breast tissue, abdominal organs, urinary tract, and neck structures. A consultant sonographer performs every scan at Sonoworld, and a written report with images is provided on the same day.
Most appointments can be self-referred. You do not need a GP letter to book. If you are unsure which scan fits your symptoms, call 020 3633 4902 and a member of the clinical team will advise you.

Patients book for two reasons: to investigate symptoms that have not yet been explained, or for proactive screening when there are no symptoms at all. Ultrasound is non-invasive, uses no radiation, and provides results on the same day — which makes it a practical first step in both scenarios.
Many patients book with no specific symptoms — simply for reassurance and early detection. The Well Woman Scan and Full Body Screening packages are designed for this purpose, covering all major organ systems in a single appointment.

Most women's health scans at Sonoworld can be self-referred — no GP letter is required. You can book directly online or by calling 020 3633 4902. If the scan identifies findings that need follow-up, the written report can be shared with your GP or a specialist of your choice.
Choose the scan that best matches your primary concern. For pelvic symptoms, book the Pelvic Ultrasound. For abdominal symptoms, book the Upper Abdominal Scan. For a comprehensive health check with no specific symptoms, the Well Woman Scan covers pelvic organs, upper abdomen, urinary tract, and aorta in one appointment. If you are unsure, call 020 3633 4902 and we will advise.
You receive immediate verbal feedback at the end of your scan. A written report with annotated images is sent digitally on the same day, usually within a few hours of your appointment. The report is accepted by GPs, hospital consultants, and private medical insurers.
Preparation depends on the scan type. Abdominal scans require a 4-hour fast. Pelvic scans require a full bladder (drink 1 litre of water 1 hour before). The Well Woman Scan requires both. Your booking confirmation will include specific preparation instructions for the scan you have chosen.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves — not ionising radiation. It is widely used across women's health, abdominal, and breast imaging precisely because it carries no radiation risk. The procedure is non-invasive and typically well tolerated.
