How to Prepare for Your Presentation Scan

✓ No special preparation required

A presentation ultrasound-scan is performed abdominally — gel is applied to your tummy and the probe is moved gently across the surface. You do not need a full bladder and there is no internal examination involved. Simply arrive at your appointment time.

What to wear

Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to your abdomen. A two-piece outfit (top and trousers or skirt) is ideal so you can simply lift your top rather than undress fully.

What to bring

  • Your maternity notes or handheld notes (helpful but not essential)
  • Any previous scan reports, particularly if baby was noted to be breech
  • Your partner or a support person — they are welcome in the scan room
  • Any questions you have about your baby's position or delivery options

What’s included at £235

  • 15–20 minute focused scan
  • Fetal lie and presentation assessment
  • Cephalic/breech/transverse identification
  • Breech type classification (if applicable)
  • Placental location check
  • Amniotic fluid volume assessment
  • Cord position screening
  • Printed ultrasound photos
  • Detailed written position report
  • Delivery planning guidance

No hidden fees. All-inclusive pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Booking FAQs

Do I need a GP referral to book?

No GP referral is required. You can book directly online or by calling 020 3633 4902. A presentation scan is a self-referral service available to any woman in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Do I need a full bladder for a presentation scan?

No. A presentation scan is performed abdominally and does not require a full bladder. At 32–40 weeks, there is sufficient amniotic fluid and fetal size to obtain clear images without any bladder preparation. Simply arrive at your appointment time.

Can I get a same-day appointment?

Same-day appointments are often available. If you cannot find a suitable slot online, call us directly on 020 3633 4902 — we frequently have same-day availability that is not shown in the online booking system.

What is included in the £235 price?

The £235 price is fully all-inclusive and covers: the 15–20 minute scan, full fetal position assessment (cephalic/breech/transverse), breech type classification if applicable, head position check, placental location, amniotic fluid assessment, cord position screening, printed ultrasound photos, a detailed written position report, and delivery planning guidance from your sonographer. There are no additional fees.

Can my partner come to the scan?

Yes, your partner or a support person is very welcome in the scan room. Many couples find it reassuring to hear the position news together, particularly if there is a possibility of breech presentation. Please note that due to the size of our scan room, we ask that only one additional person accompanies you.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made with more than 24 hours’ notice are free of charge and you will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment may incur a £30 late cancellation fee. To cancel or reschedule, call us on 020 3633 4902 or email info@sonoworld.co.uk.

What if my baby is found to be breech?

Your sonographer will explain the type of breech position and what it means for your delivery options. You will receive a written report to take to your obstetric team. Options typically include external cephalic version (ECV) at 36–37 weeks, planned caesarean section, or in some centres a planned vaginal breech birth. Your obstetric team will guide you based on your individual circumstances. The scan result does not commit you to any particular course of action.
