Before Your Appointment

How to Prepare for Your Full Body Screening

The men’s full body ultrasound-scan covers six organ areas, and correct preparation is important for image quality — particularly for the abdominal and urinary tract components. Please read the instructions below carefully before your appointment.

Fasting & bladder preparation required

  • Fast for 4 hours before your appointment. Water is permitted and encouraged.
  • Drink 1 litre (2 pints) of water in the hour before your appointment to achieve a full bladder.
  • Do not empty your bladder in the hour before the appointment.
  • Avoid fizzy drinks on the morning of the scan as carbonated beverages increase bowel gas.

What to Wear

  • Loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the neck, abdomen, and groin
  • A top that can be raised to expose the abdomen and chest
  • Loose trousers or shorts that can be lowered to the groin for the testicular scan
  • Avoid tight belts or clothing with metal fastenings

What to Bring

  • Photo ID (passport or driving licence)
  • Insurance authorisation code (if applicable)
  • Any previous scan reports, blood test results, or GP letters
  • A list of current medications if relevant
  • Arrive 5 minutes early to complete a brief patient history form

Scan Includes

  • Thyroid & neck ultrasound-scan
  • Carotid duplex with CIMT measurement
  • Full abdominal ultrasound-scan (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen)
  • Urinary tract & prostate ultrasound-scan (kidneys, bladder, prostate)
  • Abdominal aorta (AAA) screening
  • Testicular ultrasound-scan with colour Doppler
  • Immediate verbal feedback from your sonographer
  • Same-day written report with annotated images

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the appointment take?
The full body screening appointment takes approximately 60 minutes. This includes a brief history review, all six scan areas, and verbal feedback. Please allow a little extra time for parking or travel and for completing the patient history form on arrival.
Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Yes. Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule without charge. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a cancellation fee. Call 020 3633 4902 or email info@sonoworld.co.uk to make changes to your booking.
What if I cannot fast before the scan?
If you are unable to fast for medical reasons, please call us on 020 3633 4902 before your appointment. We can discuss whether the scan can still proceed or whether rescheduling would be more appropriate. Fasting significantly improves image quality for the abdominal components.
Can I use private medical insurance?
Yes. We accept AXA, Healix, WPA, and most major private medical insurers. Please call us before booking online so we can process your authorisation code correctly. Self-pay patients are always welcome and no referral is needed.
When will I receive my report?
Your written report with annotated images is sent digitally the same day as your appointment. Immediate verbal feedback is provided at the end of the scan. The report is formatted for sharing with your GP or specialist and includes findings, measurements, and recommendations for each of the six areas assessed.
Is the scan confidential?
All patient information is held in strict confidence in accordance with UK GDPR and our ICO registration. Your report is sent only to you unless you specifically request it to be forwarded to a GP or specialist. We do not share information with your employer or insurer without your explicit written consent.
