No preparation is required for a soft tissue ultrasound scan. You can eat, drink, and take any regular medications as normal before your appointment. There is no need to fast or arrive with a full bladder.

Lumps and Bumps Ultrasound Scan

This scan checks any lump that may be felt or visualized in the body. Ultrasound is usually the first-line method of examination for anyone with a general swelling or bump. The most common causes for lumps in the body are ganglion cysts, lipomas and sebaceous cysts, which are all usually easily identifiable on ultrasound.

Other common problems which can show on the scan are:

  • Masses
  • Cysts
  • Haematomas

The cost of this ultrasound scan is only £235 (£350 for multiple lumps).

Is your lump or bump in your:

  • Breast?
  • Neck/Thyroid?
  • Hands/Wrists?
  • Feet/Ankle?
  • Knee?

Please select the specific examination for that body part.

FAQs

Booking Questions

Do I need a GP referral to book?

No GP referral is required. You can self-refer and book directly online or by calling 020 3633 4902. If the scan identifies findings that require follow-up, the written report provides the documentation your GP needs to make an onward referral.

Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Yes. Please give us at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule without charge. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Call 020 3633 4902 or email info@sonoworld.co.uk to make changes.

Can I use private medical insurance?

Yes. We accept AXA, Healix, WPA, and most other major private medical insurers. Please call us before booking online so we can process your insurance authorisation code correctly. Self-pay patients are always welcome.

My lump is in my breast — is this the right scan?

No. Breast lumps require a dedicated breast ultrasound scan that uses specific protocols and equipment for breast tissue. Sonoworld offers a separate breast ultrasound scan for this purpose. Similarly, lumps in the neck or thyroid, testicles, or within a joint are better assessed with their dedicated specialist scans. If you are unsure, call 020 3633 4902 and the team will advise on the most appropriate scan.

How quickly will I receive my report?

Your written report with annotated images is provided on the same day as your appointment, usually within a few hours. The report is sent digitally and can be shared directly with your GP or specialist.

Is the scan confidential?

Yes. Sonoworld is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). All patient data is held securely and in strict confidence. Your results are not shared with your GP unless you specifically request this.
