No preparation is required for a soft tissue ultrasound scan. You can eat, drink, and take any regular medications as normal before your appointment. There is no need to fast or arrive with a full bladder.
The most important thing is to wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to the area being scanned. If the lump is on your torso, back, or a less accessible area, a gown will be provided at the clinic.
This scan checks any lump that may be felt or visualized in the body. Ultrasound is usually the first-line method of examination for anyone with a general swelling or bump. The most common causes for lumps in the body are ganglion cysts, lipomas and sebaceous cysts, which are all usually easily identifiable on ultrasound.

No GP referral is required. You can self-refer and book directly online or by calling 020 3633 4902. If the scan identifies findings that require follow-up, the written report provides the documentation your GP needs to make an onward referral.

No. Breast lumps require a dedicated breast ultrasound scan that uses specific protocols and equipment for breast tissue. Sonoworld offers a separate breast ultrasound scan for this purpose. Similarly, lumps in the neck or thyroid, testicles, or within a joint are better assessed with their dedicated specialist scans. If you are unsure, call 020 3633 4902 and the team will advise on the most appropriate scan.
Your written report with annotated images is provided on the same day as your appointment, usually within a few hours. The report is sent digitally and can be shared directly with your GP or specialist.
Yes. Sonoworld is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). All patient data is held securely and in strict confidence. Your results are not shared with your GP unless you specifically request this.
