About This Package

What Is the Gold Health Screen?

The Gold Health Screening Blood Test is our most comprehensive package — a 70+ biomarker assessment covering advanced cardiovascular risk markers, detailed hormone profiles, insulin resistance, cancer markers and nutritional analysis. It is designed for patients who want the fullest possible picture of their health, with every result reviewed by a clinician and set out in a comprehensive written report.

The Gold package goes significantly beyond what is available through the NHS or standard private health checks. Advanced markers such as ApoB, Lp(a), HOMA-IR, and omega-3 index are not routinely tested but provide clinically important information about cardiovascular risk, metabolic health, and nutritional status that standard panels miss.

The Gold package is recommended for:
  • Adults with a strong family history of cardiovascular disease or cancer.
  • Patients with multiple risk factors seeking the most comprehensive assessment available.
  • Anyone who wants advanced cardiovascular risk markers (ApoB, Lp(a)) beyond standard cholesterol.
  • Those seeking insulin resistance testing and metabolic health optimisation.
  • Patients who want the widest biomarker coverage available from a single blood draw.
  • Anyone who has previously had abnormal results and wants a thorough follow-up assessment.
What’s Included

Gold Package — Advanced Biomarkers

Everything in the Bronze and Silver biomarker panels, plus these advanced markers:
Advanced Cardiovascular

ApoB & Lp(a)

Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) is a stronger predictor of cardiovascular events than LDL cholesterol. Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor present in approximately 20% of the population — it is not reduced by statins and requires specific management strategies.

Metabolic Health

Insulin & HOMA-IR

Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR (Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance) detect insulin resistance — the underlying driver of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease — years before HbA1c becomes abnormal.

Advanced Thyroid

Full Thyroid Panel (TSH, T3, T4, Anti-TPO)

The standard TSH test can miss subclinical thyroid dysfunction. The Gold package includes free T3, free T4, and anti-TPO antibodies — identifying autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's, Graves') and subclinical hypothyroidism that a TSH alone would not detect.

Nutritional

Omega-3 Index & Fatty Acid Profile

The omega-3 index measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in red blood cell membranes — a validated marker of cardiovascular risk and a guide to dietary supplementation. Low omega-3 index is associated with increased risk of sudden cardiac death and cognitive decline.

Clinical Review

Clinician-Reviewed Written Report

Every marker in your Gold panel is reviewed by a Sonoworld clinician before your results are released. Your written report sets each value against its reference range, flags anything outside the expected range, and explains what that finding means in the context of your history.

Also included (from Bronze and Silver):
  • Full blood count · Liver function · Kidney function · Fasting glucose & HbA1c · Full lipid profile
  • Thyroid function (TSH) · Vitamin D & B12 · Iron studies · Uric acid
  • hsCRP · Full hormone panel · DHEA-S & cortisol · Folate & homocysteine · Magnesium & zinc
  • PSA (men) or CA-125 (women) · Gut health markers (calprotectin) · Comprehensive cancer markers panel
  • Clinician-reviewed written report
Preparation

How to Prepare for Your Gold Blood Test

Please follow these instructions for accurate results
  • Fast for 12 hours before your appointment (water is permitted and encouraged).
  • Continue all prescribed medications unless your GP has specifically advised otherwise.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours before the test (affects cortisol, inflammatory markers, and CK).
  • Avoid alcohol for 72 hours before the test (affects liver enzymes, triglycerides, and GGT).
  • For sex hormone testing, morning appointments are preferred (testosterone peaks in the morning).
  • Avoid fish oil supplements for 5 days before the test if omega-3 index accuracy is important to you.
  • Wear a short-sleeved or loose-sleeved top for easy venous access.
  • Bring a full list of medications, supplements, and any previous blood test results.
How It Works

Your Gold Screening Appointment

1Comprehensive Health History

A detailed clinical history covering your symptoms, risk factors, family history, medications, lifestyle, and health goals. This ensures every result is interpreted in the context of your individual clinical picture.

2Blood Sample Collection

A trained phlebotomist collects your blood sample — typically 6–8 tubes for the Gold package. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes in a comfortable, private clinical room.

3Laboratory Analysis

Your sample is sent to an accredited laboratory and the full Gold panel is processed within 48 hours. You do not need to return to the clinic while your sample is being analysed.

4Clinician Review & Written Report

Every result is reviewed by a Sonoworld clinician before release. You receive a comprehensive written report setting out each marker against its reference range, with commentary on any value outside the expected range and guidance on whether further investigation is indicated.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ApoB and why is it important?

ApoB (apolipoprotein B) is a protein found on all atherogenic (artery-clogging) lipoprotein particles. ApoB is a more accurate predictor of cardiovascular risk than LDL cholesterol because it counts every atherogenic particle — not just the cholesterol content. Many patients with "normal" LDL have elevated ApoB and are at significantly higher cardiovascular risk than their standard cholesterol panel suggests.

What is Lp(a) and should I be concerned if it is elevated?

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor that is elevated in approximately 20% of the population. High Lp(a) is associated with a 2–4-fold increased risk of heart attack and stroke. It is not reduced by statins or standard lifestyle changes, and requires specific management strategies. Knowing your Lp(a) level allows for more aggressive risk factor management and appropriate specialist referral.

What will my Gold results report contain?

Your report lists every marker tested alongside its reference range, so you can see exactly where each result sits. A Sonoworld clinician reviews the full panel before it is released and flags any value outside the expected range, with commentary on what it may indicate and whether further investigation is advisable.

Do I need a GP referral for the Gold health screen?

No. The Gold health screen is a self-referral service, so you can book directly without a GP letter. We do recommend sharing your written report with your GP, particularly if any marker falls outside its reference range, so that your results sit alongside the rest of your medical record.

Can I combine the Gold blood test with an ultrasound screening package?

Yes. Many patients combine the Gold blood test with our Cardiovascular Screening Package (echocardiogram, carotid Doppler, and aortic aneurysm scan) for a comprehensive same-day cardiovascular health assessment. Please call 020 3633 4902 to arrange a combined appointment.

How often should I repeat the Gold health screen?

For most patients, an annual Gold health screen provides an excellent longitudinal view of health trends. Patients with specific risk factors or abnormal results on a previous screen may benefit from 6-monthly monitoring of key markers. The clinician reviewing your panel will advise on the appropriate follow-up interval in your written report.
