Every package is performed by a consultant-grade sonographer with over 20 years of NHS and private experience. The clinic uses GE Voluson and Logiq ultrasound systems. You receive instant verbal results at the end of your appointment and a detailed written report within 24 hours.

Who Should Consider a Screening Package?

Ultrasound screening is most valuable for people who are asymptomatic but carry risk factors for the conditions being assessed. The following groups benefit most from a preventive package.

  • Age 40 and overThe incidence of most screened conditions rises significantly after 40, making this the most common age for preventive assessment
  • Family history of cancer or vascular diseaseFirst-degree relatives with bowel, ovarian, prostate, or thyroid cancer, or premature cardiovascular disease
  • Hypertension or hyperlipidaemiaElevated blood pressure and cholesterol accelerate atherosclerosis and increase aortic aneurysm risk
  • Smokers and ex-smokersSmoking is the strongest modifiable risk factor for abdominal aortic aneurysm and carotid atherosclerosis
  • Overweight or metabolically at riskFatty liver disease, gallstones, and renal cysts are more prevalent in people with metabolic syndrome
  • Annual health check preferenceSome patients use a screening package as part of an annual private health review alongside blood tests

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral for a screening package?+
No GP referral is required for any Sonoworld screening package. You can self-refer and book directly online or by calling 020 3633 4902. If your findings require follow-up, the clinic can provide a letter to your GP.
How long does a screening appointment take?+
The Well Woman and Well Man packages take 40–50 minutes. The Women's Full Body and Men's Full Body packages take 60–90 minutes. Cardiovascular Screening and Stroke Screening each take approximately 45–60 minutes. Allow a little extra time for history-taking and verbal feedback at the end of the appointment.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?+
All Sonoworld ultrasound screening packages require a 4-hour fast because every package includes an abdominal or aortic component. Water is permitted. Packages that include a pelvic, urinary tract, or prostate scan also require a full bladder — drink 1 litre (2 pints) of water in the hour before your appointment. Full preparation instructions are sent at the time of booking.
Can I combine a screening package with blood tests?+
Yes. Sonoworld's health screening blood test panels — Bronze, Silver and Gold — can be added to any ultrasound package. Combining ultrasound and blood tests in one visit gives the most comprehensive picture of your health. Call the clinic to arrange a combined appointment.
When will I receive my written report?+
Verbal results are given at the end of the appointment by the sonographer. The detailed written report — including measurements, findings for each organ or vessel assessed, and high-resolution diagnostic images — is sent within 24 hours and is formatted for sharing with your GP or specialist.
Can I use private health insurance for a screening package?+
Many private health insurance policies cover diagnostic ultrasound. Sonoworld accepts AXA, Healix, WPA and most major insurers. Please call before booking online so authorisation can be processed correctly. An itemised receipt is provided for all claims.
What happens if something abnormal is found?+
If a significant finding is identified, the sonographer will explain it to you during the appointment. The written report will include a recommendation for follow-up — typically a referral to your GP or a specialist. In urgent cases, the clinic can contact your GP directly with your consent.
Is ultrasound screening safe?+
Yes. Diagnostic ultrasound uses non-ionising sound waves and has no known harmful effects. Unlike CT scanning, there is no radiation exposure. Sonoworld's sonographers follow BMUS guidelines on scan duration and exposure levels.
