Because this scan assesses both the upper abdomen and the pelvic organs, two preparation steps are required. Following these instructions carefully ensures clear images and accurate results.
Please complete both steps before arriving:
From confirmation to receiving your written report, here is exactly what to expect at every stage of your appointment.
You will receive an email confirmation with your appointment time, clinic address, and preparation instructions immediately after booking.
We are based in the Harley Street district, W1G. Please arrive 5 minutes early. Our reception team will check you in and take a brief clinical history.
The sonographer will perform the upper abdominal assessment first, then the pelvic assessment. A transvaginal scan is offered with your consent for detailed pelvic views.
The consultant sonographer will explain the findings clearly during the appointment. You will leave with a full understanding of what was seen.
A comprehensive medical report and high-resolution digital images are provided on the same day, ready to share with your GP or specialist.
No GP referral is required. You can self-refer and book directly online or by calling 020 3633 4902. If you do have a referral letter, please bring it with you as it provides useful clinical context for the sonographer.
If you have not fasted or your bladder is empty on arrival, the scan can still proceed, but image quality for certain organs — particularly the gallbladder and pelvic structures — may be reduced. In some cases, a repeat scan may be recommended. Please call us in advance if you are unsure.
Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours before your booking without charge. Cancellations made within 24 hours may incur a cancellation fee. Please call 020 3633 4902 or email us to make changes to your booking.
Many private health insurance policies cover diagnostic ultrasound scans. You will need a GP or specialist referral letter and pre-authorisation from your insurer before your appointment. Please check your policy and contact your insurer directly. We provide an itemised receipt and medical report for all insurance claims.
Your consultant sonographer will explain the findings verbally during the appointment. The written report and high-resolution digital images are provided on the same day, typically within a few hours of your scan. Reports are emailed directly to you and, with your consent, to your GP or specialist.
All appointments are completely confidential. Your personal data and medical information are handled in strict accordance with UK GDPR and ICO guidelines. Reports are only shared with third parties — including your GP — with your explicit written consent.
