Experiencing unexplained leg pain, persistent swelling, or a family history of cardiovascular disease? Waiting weeks for an NHS appointment can mean unnecessary anxiety and, in some cases, a dangerous delay in treatment. Conditions such as deep vein thrombosis can become life-threatening if a clot travels to the lungs, while an undetected aortic aneurysm carries a rupture risk that demands early intervention.
A private vascular ultrasound-scan at Sonoworld gives you a clear answer within hours, not weeks. Doppler technology visualises blood flow in real-time, identifying blockages, clots, and vessel abnormalities with precision. You leave the appointment knowing exactly what is happening inside your circulatory system — and what to do next.
For any of the above, call 999 or attend A&E immediately. For non-emergency concerns, call 020 3633 4902 for same-day assessment.
Select the scan that matches your concern. Every appointment includes immediate verbal feedback and a same-day written report with images.

Screens for abnormal widening of the abdominal aorta. Recommended for men over 65 and those with a family history of aneurysm. Early detection is life-saving.

Investigates the cause of varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency by mapping blood flow direction in the leg veins. Essential before any varicose vein treatment.
Book NowOur screening packages combine multiple assessments into a single appointment, giving you a broader picture of your cardiovascular health.
A targeted assessment for those with specific stroke risk factors. Combines carotid artery Doppler imaging with abdominal aorta evaluation.
Prolonged immobility significantly increases DVT risk. Leg swelling or pain after flying warrants an immediate scan.
First-degree relatives of AAA patients have a 15–25% lifetime risk. Routine screening is the only way to detect it before rupture.
A venous reflux study is required before any varicose vein procedure. Without it, treatment cannot be properly planned.
Palpitations or breathlessness can indicate structural heart issues. An echocardiogram provides a definitive structural assessment.
Patients who dismiss persistent leg swelling as “just tiredness” and wait months before seeking assessment. In several cases, this has allowed a DVT to progress to a pulmonary embolism — a preventable, life-threatening emergency. A 30-minute ultrasound-scan would have identified the clot at its earliest, most treatable stage.

Most vascular scans require no specific preparation. For an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) scan, fasting for 4–6 hours beforehand improves image quality. For leg vein or artery scans, wear loose, comfortable clothing. Specific preparation instructions will be sent with your booking confirmation.
Vascular ultrasound-scans are completely painless and non-invasive. A small amount of warm gel is applied to the skin, and the transducer is moved gently over the area being examined. There is no radiation involved.
We accept AXA, Healix, WPA, and other major private medical insurers. Contact your insurer before your appointment to confirm coverage and obtain an authorisation number. Self-pay patients are always welcome, and all prices are fully transparent with no hidden fees.
The Stroke Screening Package focuses specifically on stroke risk: it combines a carotid duplex scan with an abdominal aorta assessment. The Cardiovascular Health Package is broader: it adds bilateral leg arterial evaluation and full colour Doppler and spectral waveform analysis, making it the most comprehensive single-appointment overview of your entire peripheral circulatory system.
