At Sonoworld, you will never leave your appointment without knowing what was found. At the end of every scan, your consultant sonographer will explain the findings in plain language — what was seen, what it means, and what (if anything) needs to happen next. This verbal summary is a core part of every appointment, not an optional extra.
A formal written report, prepared by your consultant sonographer, is emailed to you within 24 hours of your appointment. The report includes:
The report is a valid clinical document that your GP, specialist, or employer can act on. If you need a copy posted rather than emailed, please let us know at the time of booking.
A normal scan is genuinely reassuring. It means the structures examined were within normal limits on the day of the scan. Your report will confirm this clearly.
A normal scan does not mean your symptoms are not real — it means the structures that ultrasound can assess did not show a structural cause on this occasion. If your symptoms persist, your GP may recommend further investigation (blood tests, CT, MRI, or endoscopy) to look at structures that ultrasound cannot assess.
Your report will categorise any finding and recommend the appropriate next step. Most findings fall into one of three categories:
| Category | Examples | Typical recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Benign, no action needed | Simple liver cyst, small gallbladder polyp (<5mm), simple renal cyst | Reassurance; no follow-up required |
| Benign, surveillance recommended | Gallbladder polyp 5–9mm, thyroid nodule TI-RADS 3, complex renal cyst Bosniak IIF | Repeat ultrasound in 6–12 months |
| Requires further investigation | Gallstones with cholecystitis, solid renal mass, suspicious lymph node, DVT confirmed | Urgent GP referral or A&E attendance |
Your Sonoworld report is a valid clinical document. You can share it with your GP by emailing it directly, bringing a printed copy to your appointment, or asking us to send it on your behalf (with your written consent). Most GPs welcome private imaging reports as they reduce the need for NHS diagnostic appointments and can accelerate the referral pathway.
The question we are asked most often at the end of a scan is: "What do I do now?" For patients with a normal scan, the answer is usually straightforward — share the report with your GP and discuss whether any further investigation is needed for your symptoms. For patients with a finding that requires follow-up, we always explain the urgency clearly: whether this is something to discuss with your GP at your next routine appointment, or something that warrants a call to your GP today. We never leave a patient uncertain about what to do next.
Yes. If you have had a scan elsewhere and are uncertain about the findings, Sonoworld can perform a repeat scan or review your existing images. Call us on 020 7486 1991 to discuss.
This is rare, but if it occurs, you are entitled to seek a second opinion from another GP or specialist. Your Sonoworld report is a valid clinical document prepared by an HCPC-registered consultant sonographer.
Scan images can be provided on request. Please contact us on 020 7486 1991 or email us after your appointment.
